AN UNFORGETTABLE FIVE MINUTES
MoNA, the Virtual Museum
Personal project · Experience design · 2026
The idea

A museum of NFTs that are worth nothing. Which, by now, is all of them.

MoNA is a five-minute virtual museum that runs in your browser. Part parody, part game, part guided tour. You walk in with 300 coins and walk out with a certificate that proves you own nothing.
The sixty-second version · narrated by AugustusRendered from the museum itself
Where it began

It startedin a classroom.

In my Human-Centered Design class at Pace, we built a virtual museum of NFTs. The idea stayed with me.

I went back to it as a weekend project, to sharpen my craft and see what it could become with a proper story: a real building, a guide with a voice, and a reason to stay. It was also my first project in Blender, after 3ds Max.

No client and no brief. Just one question: what would a museum for dead NFTs feel like if it took itself completely seriously?

A parody that became a game

Attentionis the fee.

The joke needed a mechanic. NFTs were worth exactly as much as people were looking at them, so in MoNA, looking is the whole economy.

  1. 01

    Admission is free.

The last free thing that happens. It is written in radium on a stone everyone walks past.

  2. 02

A benefactor gives you 300 coins. The building takes one a second.

Five minutes, from the doors in. At zero the doors lock and the museum keeps the fee.

  3. 03

Look at the art. It pays you. It also dies.

Hold a stare and a work pays you coins, while its price falls. At zero it is not found, forever.

Try it

Hold the painting.

This is the museum's real economy, running on this page. Hold to stare and watch what your attention costs the art.

1.6 sof staring pays 45 coins. Then 62% of that, then less again.
40%of a work's price goes every second you stare at it.

Augustus, the hologram docent, on his plinth in the rotunda THE GUIDED TOUR · 5 MINUTES

Augustus shows you round.

A hologram of a drawing of a sculpture walks you from the stars to the curtain, in his own voice. He degrades as your coins run out.

The Long Gallery under a coffered barrel vault, six works in six metal frames WALK IT YOURSELF

Step off the tour and wander.

Walk the rotunda and the Long Gallery at your own pace. Read the plaques, stare at what you like. The meter keeps running.

The docent

Augustus is the line drawing from the MoNA mark, standing on his plinth in radium light. The real marble bust waits in the corner of the gallery the whole time.

DOCENT v2.1

Full light, full sentences, a horn motif when he speaks.

v1.4 (DEGRADED)

Below 75 coins his light dims and his horn turns into a trombone.

v0.3 (DEPRECATED)

At zero. He has one line left, and he uses it on you.

The orchestra

It goes brokewith you.

Eleven sampled instruments and a score written as data, performed live, so the music can answer your wallet. The strings go flat, the fanfare cracks, a ragtime pianist takes over. Never a kazoo.
